please give me some surf tips

Postby melissa on Wed Feb 20, 2008 12:04 pm

i would like some personal tips for my upcoming surf and yoga
adventure...
i know about sun salutations. what else? anything to practice in
the pool? i've been working the shoulders and arms a bit as well as
just trying to build endurance.
my biggest concern is that i am a little scared in big waves and i am
not super great at reading the water to see if there is a rip tide.
also i wonder about the end of the ride - i see surfers just fall off
the board and i feel like i would just crash into my board or
something. it's like when i skied - i did great - but couldn't sort
out stopping and so ended up crashing into someone to stop! : )

Hi Melissa,
Cool.Welcome to portugal
Don,t worry your gonna be fine !
I am always teaching beginners and we have special soft bords that even if you do hit them you will bounce off !they are soft- like a boogie board. Also the fins are flexible as well.they are perfect.really.long and soft thats the key
pushups for the chest, sunsalutations.swimming and standing poses all good.
remember surfing like zen -no mind.
sometimes its better this way
about the big waves and rips etc.
we only take small groups out . means we can properly teach each person and whatch each person.
you don,t go far from sure and we know the local conditions.just like in living respect is key.
When you fall off (which is gonna be often fall shallow and be careful of the wrists. The water always cushions your fall
your gona be great Melissa.check that you tube vid on the forums surf and yoga videos section
